Sam Winchester

His past

Sam was just six months old the night his mother died. He had been in his crib and Mary saw a strange dark figure bent over him. Realizing that this was not her husband standing over the baby's crib, she had gone into the room screaming. When John made it upstairs, he found his wife pinned to the ceiling and bleeding over Sam's crib right before she burst into flames.

When Sam was about six years old, he was attacked by a Shtriga - a creature that feeds on the lifeforce of children. He has no recollection of that traumatic event. Sam was nine when he told his father he was afraid of the creature in his closet. John's response to that was to teach him how to shoot a gun, something Sam resented for years. He was about twenty years old when he got into a heated argument with his dad about wanting to lead a normal life and go to College. Despite his father's ultimatum, Sam left for Stanford and never looked back.

His love life

While in Stanford, Sam met Jessica Moore and fell in love with her. They eventually moved in together and Sam was seriously considering asking her to marry him when his life was more settled. His high LSAT scores got him a full-ride to Law School, something he very much looked forward to. His life was falling into place nicely.

Yet, despite loving Jessica as much as he did, Sam kept from her the secrets of his family. All Jess knew was that he was not very close to his dad and brother, so she was very surprised when Dean showed up unannounced in the middle of the night to tell Sam that their father had been on a hunting trip and hadn't been home in a few days. That surprise turned to shock when Sam dropped everything to spend a weekend looking for his dad.

When Sam came back two days later, he discovered that tragedy had once again struck too close to home. He found Jessica pinned to their bedroom ceiling and she burst into flame right in front of his eyes. His brother Dean is the one who got him out of the apartment before it toally burned down, but that event has marked Sam and made him want revenge on the Demon that not only deprived him of a mother and a normal childhood, but also killed the woman he loved.

A few months later, while working a case in upstate New York, Sam met Sarah Blake and there were immediate sparks between the two of them. Dean noticed the attraction and pushed Sam to explore the relationship, saying it was time Sam start to let go of his grief and guilt over Jessica's death. As the case got more complicated, Sam and Sarah got closer and he told her that he felt cursed because everyone he held dear ended up dead. Sarah later tells him that he may not be cursed because she is still very much alive. Sam leaves but comes back for one last kiss...

The others

After Sam admitted having visions that later came true, he and his brother tried to find out what was going on with him, only to find out that there might have been other kids just like Sam. In Saginaw, Michigan, then met a young man named Max Miller. Max was about Sam's age and he had developed new mental powers around the same time Sam's visions started happening. But it soon became apparent Max's powers were way beyond Sam's and that he used them in order to avenge himself from the people who persecuted him in his life.

After the boys reunited with their dad to confront the Demon that killed Mary and Jessica, the Demon told Sam that he had plans for him and the other children like him. That ominous omen has been eating away at Sam because it feeds into his fears that he'll become like Max and end up killing people.

After their father's death, Sam has another vision involving a man walking into a sporting goods store and buying a shotgun in order to shoot the owner of the store and himself. What Sam finds when he gets on location is another kid just like him, who possesses strong powers of persuasion. But Andrew Gallagher, as it turns out, is not the only one who possesses such powers. Unbeknowst to Andy, he had a twin - Anson - who knew about Andry and was killing people who kept him and his brother apart all those years. In a final showdown, Andy killed Anson to save the woman he loved and keep Sam's brother - Dean - from killing himself under Anson's orders. More than ever, Sam is sure that his powers will make him into a killer with no conscience...
